Parents

Parent Involvement
Parental support through volunteer service helps to ensure that Langston will continue to be an excellent learning community for all students. Langston parents commit to an average of 9 hours per quarter in service to the school. Parent service to the school illustrates for students your commitment to their success. Your time and talents are needed and appreciated!
Hurricane Helene Make Up Days
Our School Board made the decision during the School Board meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 to use self-paced, asynchronous (no-live instruction) eLearning for the 3 required Make Up Days due to Hurricane Helene.
Langston has always focused on following Greenville County Schools scheduling in order to support our families that have students in both school systems. Langston will be modeling these make up days after Greenville County Schools plan for self-paced E-Learning Days Due to Hurricane Helene:
Hurricane Helene was an unusual event resulting in widespread power outages for an extended period of time, which made it impossible for Greenville County Schools, and most districts in our area, to conduct eLearning during the eight days schools were closed.
In accordance with state law, the State Department of Education is requiring districts to make up three of the days missed during Hurricane Helene, which will then allow our local school board to excuse three days and the State Board of Education to excuse three days.
The district administration is proposing a plan to meet these requirements to the GCS Board of Trustees. Upon approval, Greenville County Schools will make up three days missed from Hurricane Helene using self-paced, asynchronous (no live instruction) eLearning on the following days: Friday, March 14; Friday, April 18; and Saturday, May 10. Students and teachers will not need to be online for these makeup days; teachers will provide students with assignments that can be completed within five school days upon return to school.
Testing Information
All students at Langston Charter Middle School are required to participate in mandatory state testing. You can learn more about testing by visiting the SC Department of Education’s Parent Resource page.
Parent/Student PowerSchool Portal
A parent portal account provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to do the following:
- View their student’s information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores.
- Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students.
- View their student’s school and contact information.
Uniforms
The purpose of the school uniform is to focus students’ attention on academics by reducing distractions. Students distinguish themselves by their actions and accomplishments, not their wardrobe. Parents agree to purchase the required uniform and ensure that their students are dressed according to the uniform dress code daily.
Student Technology
The fee provides a daily academic planner, select classroom supplies, and a subscription to Microsoft Office 365.
This subscription includes a school email address, cloud storage on Microsoft’s OneDrive, and a license to download the Microsoft Office suite on up to 5 personal devices. Students will use these resources to collaborate, create, store, and submit work.
